Description
Examines in detail what is meant by" depth" processing and suggests ways in which the recognition process may function. Mechanisms for encoding the presentation stimulus, utilizing the stored trace, and looking back in recent memory are discussed. Empirical issues are reexamined, and theoretical issues--the effects of expectancy on encoding and the short-term memory/long-term memory distinction--are reconsidered.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
