BanG Dream! Ave Mujica Episode 13 Discussion

So, this season was actually 12 episodes long, while episode 13 was a mini live concert and an advertisement for the rest of the story in general? Well, I liked Ave Mujica as such. But in terms of Bandori and especially compared to MyGO it was often too cheesy and over the top melodramatic. In the end, to me, it didn't even feel like a darker version of MyGO, but more like a darker version of Garupa in general because of how cartoonish the drama was with the constant mental illness themes and soap opera twists.

@GangsterCat MyGO was ultimately their clear favorite due to its more obvious critical and audience success, while Ave Mujika felt too uneven and divisive. Although Ayano was clearly very invested in Sakiko x Uika, even if they made them related.

I can't believe its over...

I don't even know what to say, that was a great finale, the peak of fan service for a band anime.
Im just happy to see Mortis back, she's still there /CRIES
And yes, it still felt lacking, I was hoping to at least get a nice MutsuSaki moment.

Still, we're geting a Sequel! And that's enough for now..

@Aleksu They've already closed the Uika x Sakiko sbuplot at this point in episode 12. At least for now, considering that the theme of their family will clearly appear again in the sequel. If they were more pushy with it, I'm afraid they'd start getting accused of promoting incest and queerbaiting.

@GangsterCat It's up to you, but at this point MyGO has clearly been more successful and thoughtfully done in comparison.

@RobertBobert I absolutely HATE the voice acting and singing skills of MyGO's members, especially Anon and Tomori
Ave Mujica is top-tier especially Uika (Sasaki Rico) who has plenty of discography outside Bang Dream. even this season, she sings Welcome to Japan Elf-san OP theme.

Well i recently watched all of mygo and all of ave mujica. Loved mygo and thought ave mujica was ok in comparison. I will definitely take this episode tho. Its only fanservice but i will take it. the songs are great after all. Also happy there is a sequel coming, i think the ave mujica cast especially needs it.

@VP2003boi Yes, considering how many blank spots there are in the story. However, it is possible that this was intentional, to leave material for a sequel.

@RafaBryan Why did you decide you'd never see them again? It's a double season and both bands are inextricably linked. Not to mention their cameos in the show.

Wait, can anyone confirm that Ave Mujica literally sang a song about wishful thinking and living in an imaginary version of the real world? That sounds a little weird.

@Okami_doge You sound like you expected this anime to have some kind of negative impact on that, lmao. Honestly, I don't remember Garupa ever having any real problems outside of the first season of the anime.

@RobertBobert haha, not at all, i just thought they would just end the anime with "play the game" conclusion. i play the game anyway but i kinda want more anime contents, so im very happy

I kind of zoned out throughout the episode—weak ass songs from both groups. I think they ran out of good MyGo songs in the previous season, and Ave Mujica doesn’t even have any.

Overall, it’s a step down from the previous season. My main issue is that they keep introducing plot points and then doing nothing with them—nothing gets resolved.

• A girl has a clear mental illness? It was important for like eight episodes, but now that it episode 9(or whatever) it suddenly doesn’t matter!
  
• The alcoholic dad? That was a problem for a moment, but who doesn’t have one? Just move out, I guess.
  
• All the gay baiting? It’s obvious it wouldn’t lead anywhere since the anime is based on the actual group.
  
• etc, etc. I'm sure there are others, but I can't remember right now.
  

There’s a whole lot of wishy-washy writing: “Let’s disband.” “Let’s not disband.” “Let’s join another group.” Every character has an opinion, but they change it for no reason.

The episode was entirely focused on songs and performances—a nice change of pace after all the drama from the past 12 episodes.

Oh, and we got some *ahem* quality ass shots too.

@VP2003boi I would bet that the sequel would be fully united to complete or continue the story for all the characters. The movie could be a good idea for that.

@Tamunomo MyGO and Ave Mujica are inseparable from each other and do not transfer anything to each other. Both of these groups are a conditional new "generation" in the franchise.

I was talking about the story continuity aspect of Ave Mujica series. Chronologically it's Crychic, then MyGO and now Ave Mujica. Maybe "passed on" is not the best term, more like "[Ave Mujica] joined MyGO on stage".

Indeed that MyGO and Ave Mujica are inseparable, but having an "inseparable" band (plus Crychic) sharing a great portion of screen time with the titular band in their eponymous series feels odd to me.

Since another season has been announced, I won't be so critical of this one. In conclusion, it was enjoyable, although I admit that all the exaggerated drama threw me off for much of the anime, with incomprehensible and sometimes forced characters. That said, I quite liked this episode, with two very good songs by Ave Mujica, of a level far superior to Mygo (in my tastes and personal opinion). By the way, Mortis didn't die because when Mutsumi looked in the mirror, he came out (or so I think). Looking ahead, I hope for less drama and more depth in the characters. Some sort of hiatus from the dramas... At least we finally get to hear more songs.

Yet, that does NOT resolve the unfinished arcs (Togawa family, Uika/Hatsune...). Luckily, there will be a sequel to it, which, I hope, will address all these.

This episode did respond to Sakiko's proclamation to be a god, by including a mini-play of rendition of Ragnarök suiting the worldview of AM with Sakiko (Oblivionis) being the god. Another disappointment — more like, bait. I thought that proclamation was metaphorical, signifying a change of Sakiko's character and role in the band. Yet, considering how every episode of AM ended with an intriguing 'plot twist' providing fantasy for imagination, but succeeded by a MUNDANE follow-up in the following episode's plot, this was fair.

The choice of shooting of the sequel is very iffy to me. Oslo? Sure, Ragnarök is a Nordic myth about the perishment of gods and end of the world, but that does not make it convincing ENOUGH to start filming the sequel in another place. What have to be done with filming in Oslo or other Nordic/Scandinavian cities?

I do appreciate the effort of Bushiroad & Bandori to include some psychological elements to make it more realistic. Unfortunately, to me, this series comes as a JUMBLE of personality crises and self-doubt more so than an in-depth illustration of inter- and intra-personal conflicts.

@Okami_doge I would also like to see a new season of Pico coming. It will be quite fun when the chibis of AM members are included alongside MyGO ones. :) Yet, I guess they will first include AM in the official gameplay.

@RobertBobert yes. It appears that MyGO and AM are greatly focused by Bushiroad. I believe that they have wanted to make something more than 'conventional girls' band animes' with two a penny depiction of challenges faced by JKs (joshi kousei, lit. female highschoolers).

I only started watching this anime a month ago or so due to a reddit post about Sakiko and Uika (I would have never thought of watching Bang Dream if not for that post). I was immediately intrigued and had to know more about them and their relationship. Started watching MyGo and then Ave Mujica.

Watching this has been such a wild ride for me. I never expected that I would end up enjoying it as much as I did. The comparison to PMMM is spot on.

The music, direction, cinematography, VA's, drama, characterisation and character dynamics (just to name a few things) are all aspects that I thoroughly enjoyed.

One of the very rare 10/10 anime for me. Absolutely entertaining and thrilling.
