Tomohito Oda's Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. (Komi Can't Communicate) manga ended in the ninth issue of Weekly Shounen Sunday on Wednesday. The 499th chapter marked the manga's nearly nine-year run. The final volume will include the 500th chapter.
Oda originally began the manga as a one-shot in Weekly Shounen Sunday in September 2015, which began regular serialization in the magazine the following May. Shogakukan published the 36th volume on January 17, with the 37th and final volume scheduled to be released on March 18. Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. has a cumulative 16 million copies of its volumes in circulation.
OLM adapted the manga into two anime seasons in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022, each airing in 12 episodes. Netflix streamed both seasons with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages.
VIZ Media licensed the manga in English and released the 32nd volume on January 14. The 33rd volume will go on sale on March 11.
Synopsis
It's Shouko Komi's first day at the prestigious Itan Private High School, and she has already risen to the status of the school's Madonna. With long black hair and a tall, graceful appearance, she captures the attention of anyone who comes across her. There's just one problem though—despite her popularity, Shouko is terrible at communicating with others.
Hitohito Tadano is your average high school boy. With his life motto of "read the situation and make sure to stay away from trouble," he quickly finds that sitting next to Shouko has made him the enemy of everyone in his class! One day, knocked out by accident, Hitohito later wakes up to the sound of Shouko's "meow." He lies that he heard nothing, causing Shouko to run away. But before she can escape, Hitohito surmises that Shouko is not able to talk to others easily—in fact, she has never been able to make a single friend. Hitohito resolves to help Shouko with her goal of making one hundred friends so that she can overcome her communication disorder. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
@RobertBobert never say never weekly shonen Sunday doesn't have that many anime but the problem is the studio is overwhelmed and I believe has financial and staffing issues i think most of the staff left
I'd rather die a free man then live under the rules of idiots
9 years jfc
komi has been there since so long i think i took it for granted
even though i dont like the series much, thanks for all you contributed to the medium over the years.
komi vol 1 was the first vol1 of any manga i ever bought, in 2019 at the age of 13, back then i didnt have any friends due to transfering to a new school, and so anime and manga were all i had :3
also sharing that Komi San Vol 1 was how i got my first date with a girl :3
remember back when it was a running joke that komi would never get an anime, then lockdown hit and suddenly the time started flying by, before we knew it, theres over 2 seasons to watch now lol
@RobertBobert If I remember correctly, I think it was announced that rerun of first 2 seasons would be happening last year but I don't know what happened.
Some people were speculating that at the end of rerun 3rd season will be announced. I think don't** that happened.
